BioCrawled out of the bilge-slicked mud of the Delaware River when I was a baby and never got the mud off in the 26 years I lived in New Jersey. Packed up and went West because I didn't have much but restless American blood keeping me awake at nights.
Blood less like a faucet dripping into an ancient rust-stained sink, and more like an old wooden gate slamming open and shut in the first shiver of a cold front in late November.
No promised land here but a lot of long sunny roads, enough to quiet the blood and bake the mud off.
